If you check out the Internet Movie DataBase, there, registered users are allowed to rate the movies. Based on those ratings, a top has been made. The big number of votes that every movie in the top has got (and gets daily) makes the top very trustworthy.

The best film, as voted there, is The Shawshank Redemption (1994) a film directed by Frank Darabont, with a script written by the director and based on a short story written by Stephen King. Stephen King is a name that would almost automatically connect in our minds with S.F. movies, but no, this one is not an S.F. I admit that for many of us, it may not be the best of all the films ever made, but sure is one of them (it is for me). Two big movie stars, Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, are the actors who play the leading roles. Most of the film reflects the life of an innocent man who was convicted for killing (shooting) his wife with her lover. The life of an ordinary man who faces prison, a thing that all of us fear of. The film shows us that prison is something that you first can`t live with, but finally becomes a thing you can`t live without. A drama with a happy ending that is certainly worth watching! You may be wondering what it is that the film wants you to realize: for me, I think it taught me that we are all busy, some of us are busy living while others get busy dying, so ==> “Get busy living or get busy dying”. I am waiting for your comments about this movie.

The next 2 positions in the IMDb top are occupied by “The Godfather (1972)” and “The Godfather: Part II (1974)”. These two great films are both directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The writing credits go to Mario Puzo, (the man who wrote a novel with the same name), who also wrote the screenplay with the director of the movie. The Godfather is actually a trilogy, because there is also a The Godfather: Part III (1990), but it is less popular than the first two of the series. Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Diane Keaton are the stars . The godfather trilogy is probably the best gangster movie ever made and I recommend it even for people who don`t like this kind of film. Tell me, why do you think “The Godfather: Part III (1990)” is not in the IMDb top? If there is someone who also read the book, please compare the movies with the book in your comments.
